Do you shoot on film or digital?

Both. I prefer to shoot primarily with film because I believe it renders the most beautiful results. I find that film creates images with a certain depth and honesty that is unachievable with digital photography. That said, I firmly believe that digital imagery also has an important role in wedding photography. Shooting digitally allows me to bring more light into images that are set in dimly lit spaces and also is unsurpassed when it comes to capturing movement. My approach is to choose the medium that will provide me with the results I'm seeking to achieve in the moment - whether that be with film or with digital.

Do you only shoot in natural light?

While my preference is to shoot in natural light whenever possible, I am able to photograph in all lighting conditions. As a wedding photographer, it is crucial to be able to photograph in various lighting situations, from partially-lit hotel rooms to dimly indoor dinner spaces to outdoor dance floors set under a vast, dark sky. I am skilled at using on-camera and off-lighting equipment to appropriately light every possible scenario.

Do you offer other types of photography in addition to weddings?

Yes. In addition to weddings, I offer all types of portrait photography and especially love to photograph boudoir. I often continue to work with my wedding clients for many years, photographing their maternity sessions, newborn sessions, family portraits, anniversary sessions and vow renewals.

WEDDINGS

What is your approach on the wedding day?

Exceptional wedding photography actually begins before the wedding. For this reason, communication is extremely important. I will be in contact with you and your planner prior to the wedding to collaborate on the wedding day timeline and to plan for location and timing of photographs.

On the wedding day, I employ a storytelling approach with the objective of documenting your wedding as it unfolds, while also capturing all of beautiful and meaningful details that go into making your wedding special and unique.

My goal is for my second photographer and myself to be as inconspicuous as possible. However, there will be times where I will take more of a hands-on approach by directing poses, asking guests for permission to take their photograph and moving in close at times to capture detailed images of important moments such as the exchange of rings and the first kiss.

Do you work with a second photographer at weddings?

Generally speaking, yes. With the exception of elopements and intimate weddings with a small guest count, every wedding collection includes a second photographer who will assist me throughout the day by providing additional photography coverage, rolling and organizing film, and to provide assistance with lighting. For events which are larger, or simply require more coverage, I am able to bring on additional photographers as needed.

What is the process to book you for our wedding?

Upon receiving your initial inquiry, I will send you a welcome guide which includes important information about my services as well as pricing options. After you have selected the Wedding Collection that is best suited for your event, you will receive a photography contract along with an invoice for a booking retainer. The retainer for domestic weddings is 35% of the collection total, 50% of the total for destination collections. All of this can be handled electronically and I am happy to schedule a consultation via telephone or video chat to answer any questions you may have. Once your contract is signed and you have completed payment, your wedding will be officially booked and I will not accept any other inquiries for your date.

Should we create a shot list or Pinterest board for you to reference?

I find that working off of a shot list throughout the day tends to be constraining in terms of both time and creativity. My preference is to be in the moment so I am able to be present for those genuine moments of interaction, joy and surprise. I pride myself on being extremely thorough in capturing the full wedding story and I tend to have a knack for anticipating moments as they unfold to capture emotional reactions. That said, if there are important mementos or special guests that you would like photographed, please do let me know.

As for Pinterest, I am happy to take a look at your inspiration photos in order to get an overall sense of the style you are working to achieve for your wedding. This can help me plan for styling pieces that will complement your decor. It is my policy, however, not to infringe on other artists' work by recreating their images.

Who should we plan to include in our family photos?

Please plan to include your immediate family (parents and siblings) and grandparents to be photographed during the allotted time for family formals. Since larger groupings can take a significant amount of time to gather and pose, these photos will be accommodated as time allows after the immediate family photos. If you anticipate that you will want extended family photos, please let me know in advance so your planner and I can plan for additional time in your wedding day timeline.

What happens if you have an emergency and can’t make it to our wedding?

Thankfully, this has never happened to me. Throughout the year, I prioritize my health by eating a healthy diet, taking vitamins and getting regular exercise. I practice yoga and meditation to manage stress and I strive to keep my work and home life in balance. During wedding season, I am especially careful in taking precautions against illness, injury and accidents. However, it is impossible to plan for every unexpected occurrence. In the event that an emergency occurs that prevents me from photographing your wedding, I have a broad network of equally talented film photographers that I can call upon to provide coverage for your day. You would receive the same wedding collection and images in a style very similar to my own, as I would handle the post-production edits myself.

IMAGES

When should I expect to receive my images?

I put the utmost care into crafting each and every image to be special and beautiful. There are a variety of factors that go into a delivery schedule, but generally, you should expect to receive your online wedding gallery approximately 6 - 8 weeks after your wedding date. You can expect to receive your engagement gallery approximately 3 - 4 weeks after your session.

How many images will I receive for my wedding?

Every wedding has a unique cadence and flow; therefore, a set number of images cannot be guaranteed. That said, you can expect to receive approximately 50 - 75 images per hour of coverage.

How many images will I receive for my engagement session?

Depending on the length of your session, you can expect to receive between 75 - 100 images in your online gallery. Prints are available for purchase separately.

Do you deliver all of the images you shoot?

I take great pride in delivering beautiful images that are consistent with my brand. Each and every wedding gallery is curated for quality and I do not deliver test shots, duplicate images, nor images that are technically incorrect. It is also my policy not to deliver raw image files or physical negatives.

Will all of the images I receive be retouched?

Each and every image you will receive toning, color corrections and light adjustments as well as minor retouching (such as blemish removal) as needed. Since film renders light and colors so beautifully and is also forgiving to the skin, these minor adjustments are typically all that is needed. Should you desire more in-depth edits (e.g.: head-swapping, removal of persons or items in the background, etc.), I can provide you with a custom quote for this service.

Who will own the copyright to the images?

All photographs taken by Jeanni Dunagan Photography, LLC are protected by United States Copyright Laws (USC Title 17). You will receive a copy of the digital negatives, along with a release for personal use. You may print copies of the images, display the images, share and use the images online for personal use and to share with family and friends. I kindly request that you credit Jeanni Dunagan Photography (@jeannidunagan) when sharing images online or via social media.
